Carolyn Miller was born in Ft. Knox, Ky. She has traveled all over the world and the U.S. with her family and also with her husband Jerry, a career submariner.
Today Carolyn calls Aiken, S.C. her home where she is regularly in demand for Equine and Canine watercolor and graphite portraiture.
Carolyn's first memories of drawing were in the Manhattan high risers drawing with Jon Negi on cellophane placed on the family TV. In her family estate she also found a treasured drawing on a brown bag of Jiminy Cricket from the same timeframe.
Her first commission was an oil of the "Old Mill" in Flanders, East Lyme, Connecticut.
For over thirty years Carolyn has applied her artistic skills to the creative portion of Real Estate as a Broker in Connecticut and as an accomplished breeder and handler of miniature horses that she sold all over the world. She also produced "The Dixieland Miniature Horse Society Newsletter", one of the largest and longest running Miniature Horse Newsletters. Additionally, she wrote a column in the "Miniature Horse Journal." Finally, she wrote for various other magazines concerning horse history and genetics.
After a life-altering experience, that of losing her mother, she finally made the decision to travel the path finally of her passion: painting, drawing, portraiture. She studied under accomplished masters of this craft. To this end, she started with the Aiken Center for the Arts watercolor artists, Nanette Langer and Esther Melton. She then went onto study with Al Beyer at USC Aiken and also studied watercolor and life drawing at Studio 222 under Will Fahnoe of Augusta, Ga. She presently is the owner of Sunnyside Studio 20 where she and a small group have studied under David Mascaro, Dept. Head for Anatomical Drawing at the Medical College of Ga. Carolyn has also has the privilege to study under Bea Kuhlke, a renowned impressionistic aqua media, oil and pastel artist and instructor at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta. At present, Carolyn is producing work with bamboo pen and Chinese ink wash as well as studying the different techniques in oil painting and pastel....Carolyn has also worked with sculpture.
