Jane Popiel

Jane Popiel attended Commercial Art School in Cincinnati, Ohio and later attended technical school in Florida to study Architectural Drafting and Design. At the Ft. Lauderdale School of Art Jane studied architectural perspective and rendering.

Jane's professional work history includes 25 years of architectural drafting and design with major firms in Florida.

After relocation to Aiken, S.C. in May of 2006 Jane continued free-lancing with her drafting but incorporated her passion, "watercolor painting" into her life.

At the Aiken Center for the Arts, which was one of Jane's major draws for relocation Jane found Nannette Langer and furthered her passion with Nannette's Watercolor Studio. Jane also took Watercolor Workshops from nationally renowned, Esther Melton at the Art Center. She also studied life drawing and watercolor under Will Fahnoe of Augusta, Ga., as well as life drawing and oil painting under the notable USCA Professor Al Beyer. At Studio 20 Jane studied semi-privately under David Mascaro, a Professor of Medical Illustration at the Medical College of Georgia.

Jane is a member of the Aiken Artist Guild as well as the S.C. Watermedia Society.
She is a supporter of the Aiken Center for the Arts where she exhibited in 2007 and took a ribbon for the "William Colgate" Best in Aiken Scene.

In April of 2008 Jane was the chosen exhibitor in the Artist Guild Gallery at the Aiken Center for the Arts. On display were twenty watercolors of various themes mixed with portraits of characters taken from the Battle of Aiken, done in period clothing.

September 2008 Jane took a blue ribbon for her "Confederate General" watercolor at the Columbia State Fair as well as a Merit Award for her "Parasol Lady".

October 2008 Jane was juried into the Watermedia Society Show at Myrtle Beach held at Franklin Burroughs-Simeon Chapin Art Museum.

For Jane, everyday presents a new palette of color and ideas allowing her to branch out and experiment with different mediums and concepts....
