ARTIST'S STATEMENT
From the simplicity of stone and pebble to the complexity of animal and human forms, drawing has become a tool for my understanding of the world around me. I want to be an explorer, a detective, and a poet all at once. Through the use of the artist's materials, I search for form and meaning.
Paraphrasing an artist whose work has influenced me greatly, Rico Le Brun, one of our strongest longings is to return to the live center of the human image, and "... of all human efforts to be included in, drawing is perhaps one of the grandest and most real". I feel this most when I draw or paint human and animal forms.
Equestrian and other animal form influences also come to me from Edgar Degas, Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Frederick Remington, and Robert Bateman, and of course, the wonderful cave paintings of Lascaux.
