Two of my great passions in life are writing and photography. I have been 'taking pictures' since a very young age, writing poems on toilet paper with my mother's black eyebrow pencil at the age of five. My greatest enjoyment is when the art of photography pulls passion and emotions from the subject and settles them into the viewer so there is communication between the two, continuing when the viewer walks away.
I've exhibited at the Beaufort Art Association gallery in Beaufort, SC, and in the Art Association's several satellite galleries, Fripp Island POA offices, and Beaufort Memorial Hospital. A member of the S.C. Writer's Workshop, Aiken Whiskey Road chapter, I have also written and directed small plays for ACP's Hopeland Garden summer series, and for churches in the area. My work has appeared in a number of Horizon anthologies, Petigru Review, Savannah, and Aiken County Magazines, The Quill, Rockford Review, Anderie Press, WordSmith, Big Easy Sonnet, Writers Exchange, Poet's Page, California Quarterly, Flights of Fancy, Poetic Page Opus, Potato Eyes, Green River Writers, PoetWorks Press, and others.
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, grew up in Williston, South Carolina, but have lived in Aiken for many years, except for a short period of 'retirement' on the South Carolina coast. I was married for thirty-one years to the late Donald Thomas of Aiken. Now, my life has taken another turn, and the love I've had for both photography and writing are waking up and turning over, stretching in the newness of morning. I am grateful for them both.
