Plein Air Outing at Hopeland Gardens
Painting at Hopeland Gardens - April 2010
Five of us - Dot Holladay, Barbie Gibson, Pam Poole, Beth Griggs and
myself, went to Hopeland Gardens today to paint and we had such a
wonderful time. Just wanted to share it with you all. Attached you
will find some pictures that George Buggs was kind enough to shoot of
us having this wonderful time. We will schedule another plein air
next month and I will let you know as soon as we chose a date so you
can mark your calendars and join us.
Columbia Museum of Art: Turner to Cezanne

On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in several different cars, members of the Aiken Artist Guild made their way to the Columbia Museum of Art for the special exhibit Turner to Cezanne. We had beautiful weather and a wonderful group of artists which added to the fabulous afternoon. All members were greeted by friendly museum employees who gave us the choice of enjoying the exhibit on our own or joining anyone of the guides that were conducting informative presentations on the works in the exhibit.
After spending two hours in the exhibit we all drove to the Blue Marlin for a fabulous southern lunch. We had wonderful conversations on the exhibit and shared information concerning artwork, artists and shows. Our last stop was City Art, located behind the Blue Marlin, which is a gallery, working studio and art store rolled into one. The "cherry on top" for a perfect day.

Carolyn Miller and Kimberly Guillermo strike a pose at City Art.
High Museum Trip
The Atlanta trip was a huge success!
When we arrived in Atlanta we headed straight for the fabulous Utrecht Art store where we were welcomed with a free gift - a quality sketchbook (only the AAG members). The experience was similar to "a kid in a candy store"... how do you say "no" to so many wonderful art supplies! We had to tear ourselves away since our stomachs were demanding fine food. We headed for the Cheesecake Factory but due to construction and traffic we settled for a wonderful Italian restaurant that was close to the High.
With a full stomach and a car full of art supplies we made our way to the High Museum. So much to see and sketch. The highlight of the High Museum Louvre exhibit was the Vermeer painting and the bronze sculptures. We spent most of our time studying and sketching our favorites from the High's permanent collection - the JS Sargent, Pissarro, Manet, Monet, DeCamp, Renior, Green, Rodin, etc...we are so lucky to have such wonderful masterpieces so close!
We had a wonderful time! For those who were not able to make it, after the holidays we plan on returning to the High to see China's Terracotta Army that opens November 16 and will be up until April 19th, 2009. We are looking at the month of February. Information will be sent before February arrives.
