High Museum Trip
Thursday, 06 November 2008 17:14

The Atlanta trip was a huge success!

When we arrived in Atlanta we headed straight for the fabulous Utrecht Art store where we were welcomed with a free gift - a quality sketchbook (only the AAG members). The experience was similar to "a kid in a candy store"... how do you say "no" to so many wonderful art supplies! We had to tear ourselves away since our stomachs were demanding fine food. We headed for the Cheesecake Factory but due to construction and traffic we settled for a wonderful Italian restaurant that was close to the High.

With a full stomach and a car full of art supplies we made our way to the High Museum. So much to see and sketch. The highlight of the High Museum Louvre exhibit was the Vermeer painting and the bronze sculptures. We spent most of our time studying and sketching our favorites from the High's permanent collection - the JS Sargent, Pissarro, Manet, Monet, DeCamp, Renior, Green, Rodin, etc...we are so lucky to have such wonderful masterpieces so close!

We had a wonderful time!  For those who were not able to make it, after the holidays we plan on returning to the High to see China's Terracotta Army that opens November 16 and will be up until April 19th, 2009. We are looking at the month of February. Information will be sent before February arrives.
