If you are interested in a tribute beyond flowers or a charity donation to honor a loved one, you might consider a donation to our scholarship fund. If you are considering a donation as an annual remembrance of a special person, perhaps someone who loved the arts, or created their own art, an award in their name is available.
Our first scholarship, in memory of Bobbie Cheetham, is being awarded this December. Bobbie was one of the founders of the Aiken Artists' Guild, won countless awards during her life, and continued her work into her eighth decade. The scholarship will go to a USCA art student. We are all excited about this dream coming to fruition, and hope to continue the award for many years. Our fund raising for this is separate from our dues.
At our juried shows, various awards are chosen for works that exemplify the standards or the lifestyle of the donor: for instance, in years past, we presented a "GUS LEHMAN AWARD". Gus loved trees! His work was harvesting trees. When he retired, moved to Aiken and began painting, he had such fun that he established the award! Our history shows a newspaper picture from 1984 of Doris Sofge winning that award. Doris is still painting, winning awards, planning workshops and living happily ever after!
We would appreciate your consideration of either option. If ART is important in your life, or in the life of a loved one, what better way to express that appreciation than by donations to our organization? Any of our officers can get you started on the process.
